Event Detail:

With California facing one of the most severe droughts on record, Governor Brown declared a drought State of Emergency in January and directed state officials to take all necessary actions to prepare for water shortages. This month he signed an Executive Order that all state water agencies must cut back another 25%.

With the snowpack at 5% of normal, and the reservoirs at record low levels - farmers have been drilling deeper in the Central Valley to continue irrigating their crops. That sinking water table is causing the land to subside. Some lands have been fallowed.

For more than two years, the state's experts have been managing water resources to ensure that the state survives this drought and is better prepared for the next one. Last year, the Governor proclaimed a drought state of emergency. The state has taken steps to make sure that water is available for human health and safety, growing food, fighting fires and protecting fish and wildlife. Millions have been spent helping thousands of California families most impacted by the drought pay their bills, put food on their tables and have water to drink.

We are facing a new reality that will impact the way we live, work, and play.
